We spent three glorious days here in late January of 2023. We’re avid snorkelers but don’t scuba. There is so much to do and see and experience here for those in your party that don’t join with the experienced, seriously safety-conscious dive masters for the Rainbow Reef exploration. We did a snorkel trip on the Rainbow Reef that may well have been our ultimate snorkeling experience, and we’ve been snorkeling all over the world for over thirty years. The onsite hiking and ‘house reef’ are excellent, and though we didn’t do the day trips to Taveuni, we talked to other guests who found them to be as first-class as everything else at Sau Bay Resort. The true strength and beauty of the whole experience was the staff. No kidding, these wonderful folks made us feel welcome, spoiled us and seemed to truly enjoy interacting with us on a daily basis. We honestly felt that they were glad we were there, and wanted us to be as happy as possible every second of our stay. I’ve never experienced a staff quite like it, anywhere. Siah (the manager) and Lui, who does everything well, but excels with his voice and guitar. . . .made every evening a relaxing, musical and magical experience. They won’t take no for an answer, so when the ladies say it’s time to dance, don’t argue. Laisa, is a gourmet artiste of the highest quality. She will rock your palette and tantalize your taste buds with every offering. Going back to the ‘real’ world of ‘normal’ fare was when I first started truly missing Sau Bay Resort. Where to even start with this review... let the adventure begin with your journey on getting to this secluded luxury eco resort. Upon arrival you already sense the friendliness of the staff and the amazing energy of this hidden gem.
Tucked away in its on private cove on the ocean sits Sau Bay resort. I was fortunate to enjoy all it has to offer as well as the scuba diving on rainbow reef. Just a short boat ride of 15mins puts you on some of the top diving in Fiji.
I am not sure which was better ... the food, the staff or the lodging. To say the least it all comes together. Amazing location, great owners, amazing diving and some real peace and tranquility off the beaten path. Sau Bay offers you the luxury of comfort without the big resort and all the people.

Completely Outstanding!
I came here for the grand reopening, the new owner was so kind and helpful. Making the experience even more enjoyable. I really enjoyed connecting with the staff as well, they always were there to help. Definitely coming back to see all those friendly faces. I especially liked the Spa, truly a relaxing place by the ocean. I also did my open water certification at Sau Bay, the resort is very close to Rainbow reef. Fiji here I come soon again! At a high level, we give the place 6 out of 5 stars! At the top of our experience was the incredible staff that greeted us and took care of us throughout our 5-day stay. We had previously spent a couple of weeks at some other resorts in the Mamanuca islands, and while those were also great, Sau Bay stood head and shoulders above them in terms of service, privacy, and overall experience.
Having snorkeled and dived many locations around the tropics since the 80’s, I can say this was right up there some of best, unlike some of the locations where much of the coral is dead and the fish are no longer abundant.

We stayed here for a few days with easy access to the Rainbow Reef. Everything was wonderful and the staff were excellent!!! We had an great time telling stories with the owners and guest over G and T's . Small intimate resort that really makes you feel like you're royalty Diving/snorkeling was awesome compared to bigger resorts. The reef in front of the resort was one of the best spots on our trip to Fiji for snorkeling. Manta encounter was awesome. They have all the toys for free and to rent. We stayed at some more "rustic" places in Fiji and wished we spent more time here. Robert, 2019

Sau Bay a wonderful small retreat off Taveuni
Our family spent a few very relaxing days in Sau Bay! The place is very beautiful set up against a mountain with a gorgeous tree in front of the main entrance. There are only six rooms which makes it feel even more special. The rooms were spacious and each of them had a nice view to the bay. The best thing of our stay at Sau Bay is we experienced Fijian hospitality in a way we hadn’t seen before. We felt welcomed & it was a very relaxing time on a very remote destination. The people at Sau Bay went out of their way and made my birthday truly special with a nice cake and singing from all the staff 😊 They helped us change our return tickets which saved us many hrs of unnecessary travel 😊😇. Sau Bay is a hidden gem that offers a true Fijian experience. Tucked away at the southeast corner of Viti Levu, Sau Bay offers unspoiled tranquility in a beautiful setting, with a friendly and attentive staff. This was our sixth trip to Fiji since 1980, and Sau Bay brings back the enchantment of Fiji which started our love affair with this island nation. Amazing dive resort!
I highly recommend coming to this resort. The resort has a very intimate peaceful setting. The staff there are amazing! Everyone was very very friendly. They all got to know my name and always greeted me with saying my name. It felt very caring and comforting. They always made sure we were comfortable during our stay. The diving was amazing. My favorite dives were the white wall and Jerry’s jelly. The dive masters always made me feel safe and comfortable diving. Food at the resort was amazing as well. All the meals we had were so delicious! I looked forward to eating all the meals everyday. If you are looking for a dive resort this is definitely the place to stay!

Beautiful bures just metres from the water. Hammock chairs swinging over and dunking into the sea. Delicious food from the kitchen. Exceptional hosting from wonderful William. PARADISE...
We had the most amazing holiday at Sau Bay Resort. From the minute we arrived we were welcomed and all the staff went out of their way to ensure we had a great experience. The Bure was lovely and clean and well presented with fresh flowers every day. Thank you to Carl and Lotu for the most amazing diving on the rainbow reef, to all the wonderful food and the lovu was the best we have ever had! I had the best massage with Charlotte, she has magic hands! Great remote spot for relaxing and recharging from our hectic every day lives - not for those who want to party - although we had some great kava nights! Thank you Eunice and all the Sau Bay staff.

Exceptional Relaxation
I just had the most beautiful, delicious, and relaxing time at Sau Bay Resort - it was the best part of my trip to Fiji. I spent two nights in one of the ocean front bures and enjoyed the island views, birdsong, snorkeling, hiking, and flora. Sau Bay is an intimate and remote resort island getaway - perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature - and it was exactly what I was looking for. Jenn, December 2023
AMAZING, RELAXING AND REJUVINATING
Beautiful, great place for relaxation and activities. The bures are very comfortable, and I could listed to the ocean and feel the breeze. The food was awesome, healthy and creative. Scuba diving is really nice, the dive guides make sure that everyone is safe, and they took us to several interesting locations. The resort staff takes great care of the guests.

REMOTE AND CIVILIZED
Yes, Sau Bay Resort is both! When we arrived, the staff were under the magnificent and ancient raintree (mimosa) on the shore in front of the man building, singing, and with freshly cut coconuts prepared for us. It was completely peaceful, safe, and quiet at night, and the only access is by boat, so is a great getaway from the noise and traffic of cities and suburbs.

My experience at Sau Bay was TOTOKA!
We loved every moment of our stay which was 8 days and wished it were longer. Right from arriving on the island we were greeted and serenaded so beautifully. Siah and her amazing team delivered top class hospitality and ensured all our needs were met. The food was absolutely delicious (The fabulous Fabi), cocktails were so tasty and activities endless. Our accommodation was immaculately clean and housed our group of 5 really well. Not only were we treated so well as guests but they made us feel as part of the family. There's lots to do from snorkelling the reef right in front of your door step, to kayaking, paddle boarding and volley on the beach. We will definitely be returning to Sau Bay, our little piece of paradise. On my next return I'll definitely be looking into the diving and getting certified. What a Fun Stay!
The people here are so kind and helpful. The reef just in front of the resort is fantastic for snorkeling. I even saw a sea turtle there. The resort is quite remote. Be prepared to step off the boat and walk through the water to shore, but it’s worth it. It’s a great place to disconnect and relax for a while.

EXCELLENT RESORT FOR FIJI HOLIDAY TO EXPLORE RAINBOW REEF
Everything was spectacular. I don’t want this secret to get out but have to share this hidden gem with you if you want an unforgettable vacation. They took care of everything, making our holiday ultra relaxing. We were greeted at the airport and enjoyed a peaceful one hour car ride to the boat. It was a 30 minute boat ride to the resort and the staff were there to sing us the welcome Bula song.
The food and drinks from the restaurant are five star. So good and lots of variety during the five days we stayed. This is a small intimate property and everyone knows you by name. They arranged excursions to Taveuni, our dive trip, which was so good, and all transportation. The snorkeling at the property was amazing, I wish I had more time to explore the beautiful reef and hang out with the fish. There is a hiking trail, spa, SUPs for rent and gorgeous sitting areas to just kick your feet up. I hope to make it back to Sau Bay. ❤️

Wow, what a wonderful, authentic experience spending five nights in this Fijian hidden gem. We were welcomed with open arms, and felt part of the family throughout our stay at Sau Bay Resort. Thank you Siah et al. 😊 The food was on point, with a daily selection of dishes ranging from fish, meats and vegetarian options, all locally sourced and freshly cooked by Fabian Beyoncé. Lui made the cocktails with care and precision. As expected, we weren’t anticipating the materialist nuances of a corporate hotel chain, and were pleasantly surprised with Tim’s beach fire dancing and kava ceremony. Something you wouldn’t experience in larger resorts.
When it came to the diving: phenomenal ! One of the most colourful, abundant, vibrant and varied reefs I’ve seen. Loktu was a knowledgable dive master, and couldn’t have felt safer diving with him. The trip to Tavora waterfalls on Taveuni was well worth it, although rather expensive, which could be justified by having a private water taxi and transfer service. Thank you Joe and Carl. Last and certainly not least, Charlotte’s bespoke massages were out of this world ! It is a shame that the owners have not provided the materials for the advertised scrub treatments.

Beautiful, rejuvenating and great diving
The resort is beautiful , great meals prepared fresh for every meal, and special requests are fulfilled. The nurses are very comfortable. I could listen to the ocean when falling asleep.
Great diving with the experienced dive masters. It’s a great place to relax and rejuvenate.
